Let present ages be 7x and 2x. Five years ago: (7x - 5) / (2x - 5) = 6 / 1. Solving: 7x - 5 = 12x - 30 => 5x = 25 => x = 5. Present ages = 7(5) = 35 and 2(5) = 10.
